Sweden — Shortlisted Universities for Master’s Study (CS / AI / Software Engineering)

Condition Assessment — Is Sweden’s “strong scholarship” condition met?

Verdict: PARTIALLY MET — proceed with Sweden, but budget as if self-funded.

The applicant’s stated rule is: Sweden is only worth including if strong scholarship opportunities genuinely exist, because sticker tuition (SEK 140,000–370,000/yr depending on university) is uniformly high with almost no cheap options by list price. Here is what the research found, in full:

  1. Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (SISGP) — Bangladesh IS eligible (confirmed on si.se’s official eligible-country list, most recently verified for the 2026/2027 cycle). This is the single most generous scholarship available (full tuition + SEK 12,000/month living stipend + insurance + travel grant). However, it is extremely competitive: for the 2026/2027 cycle, SI received 12,922 applications for all SI scholarship tracks, of which only 189 were awarded the SISGP specifically (plus 43 under the separate Pioneering Women in STEM track) — an approximate 1.5% headline acceptance rate against total applicants, or roughly 2.8% against the ~6,666 who were already admitted to an eligible programme (si.se: “232 international students receive the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals”). It also requires 3,000+ hours of documented work experience for Bangladeshi applicants, which most fresh-graduate profiles will not meet. Treat SISGP as a lottery ticket, not a plan.

  2. University in-house waiver schemes are real, exist at every shortlisted university, and are the more realistic route — but every one of them is merit-based, competitive, and partial-to-full rather than guaranteed:

    • Chalmers (IPOET 75%→85%, government-funded; Avancez up to 75%, Chalmers Foundation-funded) — the strongest and most structurally reliable in-house scheme found; open to essentially all Chalmers master’s programmes.
    • KTH Scholarship — full tuition waiver for 1–2 years, but only ~8% of applicants who were already admitted were nominated in the most recent published cycle (65 of 803, 2025 data) (kth.se).
    • Linköping (LiU International Scholarship) — normally a 50% tuition reduction, not full coverage.
    • Uppsala (Global Scholarship) — full tuition, but a small, university-wide pool competing with all subject areas, not CS-specific.
    • Lund (Global Scholarship) — variable 25/50/75/100% tuition reduction from a fixed ~SEK 26 million annual pool spread across the whole university.
    • Umeå and BTH — partial/full waivers exist and are comparatively less internationally advertised (hence somewhat less oversubscribed), but coverage is not guaranteed and BTH’s is capped at 50–75%.

Conclusion: Real, verifiable, non-fabricated scholarship and waiver mechanisms exist and Bangladesh is eligible for the flagship one. But none of them is a reliable, near-certain source of funding — SISGP is sub-3% competitive even among admitted candidates, and university waivers are merit-lottery, partial in most cases, and never guaranteed at the time of application. The applicant should read this as: apply as if fully self-funding (~SEK 280,000–370,000 tuition for 2 years, per university below), and treat any waiver or SISGP award as a bonus, not the budget baseline. This is why the condition is rated partially met rather than “well met.”
